Simple, Momentary Actions

action Benjamin Livingston evangelism gospel

Handing out tracts can lead to a lot of rejection which can cause you to ask yourself, “Does this even matter?” But every once in a while the Lord allows you to get a glimpse of what He’s doing. He reminds you that your actions are not in vain and that the Word isn’t going to return void.

As I walked into a fast-food chain to grab a quick bite, I placed a tract on the wall that divided the line and dining area. I ordered my food and waited for my order. As I waited, I saw a young man pick the tract up and intently read it. He then walked over to his family's table and handed it to his dad. The dad, with eyes focused and concentrated on the gospel message, read it, then passed it to his wife. She had the same expression and interest as him. Finally, the tract was passed to the youngest sibling. Just in those five minutes or so of waiting for my order, I saw the Lord speaking to an entire family.

I got my meal and left the building with a smile on my face and a thankful heart because the gospel had just reached a whole family in the unlikely situation of just picking up a quick bite to eat. I was so glad that God showed me how small actions that sometimes feels unnoticed, often are used mightily by Him. In this case, this small action just potentially allowed this entire family to spend eternity with Jesus. These simple steps of obedience are powerful and can often reach a whole group of people when you least expect it.

I want to encourage you that the simplest, momentary action of handing someone a tract could have an eternal impact. Even leaving one on a wall or table can be effective, because God can use that to reach exactly who He wants. All that is required is that you step out in faith and trust that He is going to move.

Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
